Prof dr. Winald Gerritsen is medical oncologist with a background in translational research with a special interest in tumorimmunology and prostate cancer. He is director of Vumc Cancer Center Amsterdam. Prof. Gerritsen has chaired the Dutch Society of Gene Therapy and became honorary member of the society. He has served as chairman of the commission of clinical research of the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF). He chaired the commission of biotherapy of the National Translational Cancer Research Network, UK and is a member of the Cancer Research UK Immunotherapy Quinquennial Review Committee. He is also member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities and has a Adjunct professorship at John Hopkins University.
Following his medical training at the University of Nijmegen, Prof. Gerritsen achieved his PhD in 1989 on bone marrow transplantation at the Medical School of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. From 1989 till 1991 he worked as a special fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, after which he held several positions at respectively the University Hospital Utrecht, The Netherlands Cancer Institute / Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital and the VU Medical Center.
